The transfusion medicine subspecialty division of Hospital Pathology Associates (HPA) supports all manners of transfusion medicine/blood banking in the Allina Health system. Our team of pathologists oversees the laboratory direction of the blood banks and coordinates care for massive transfusions, specialty product utilization, blood product management and transfusion reactions. In addition, we provide education to nursing staff and physician colleagues on best practices for patient transfusions. HPA physicians work closely with integrated blood bank specialists across the Allina Health system. As a team, the Allina Health Blood Banks have received high recognition from the American Association of Blood Banks and the College of American Pathologists.
